Description
The Azteca Stadium, also known as Estadio Azteca, is one of the largest football stadiums in the world. Located in Mexico City, the capital of Mexico, the stadium has a capacity of 87,523 spectators. It is the largest stadium in Latin America, the fifth largest in the world and the most spacious stadium designed for football competitions. The geographical location of the stadium is located at an altitude of more than 2,200 meters above sea level. It is one of the two stadiums where the decisive matches of the FIFA World Cups were held (along with the Brazilian Maracana stadium).
The Azteca was also the arena for the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City and was the main stadium of the football tournament.
Since 1966, the Azteca Stadium has become the main stadium of the Mexican national football team, where its home matches are held.
Currently, only one team, America, is playing at the stadium. In the past, the clubs UNAM Pumas, Cruz Azul, Necaxa, Atlante and Atletico Espanyol also played here, but they either returned to their home stadiums or moved to other cities.
The Azteca Stadium has a rich history associated with grandiose games and important events in the world of football.
